Principal Reliability Engineer

Your tasks and responsibilities

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Principal Reliability Engineer, are to: 

 

  • Implement short and long term strategies to improve reliability of infrastructure and utilities systems;
  • Track production losses and abnormally high maintenance cost assets;
  • Partner with Operations team to develop a plan to eliminate or reduce losses and costs through root cause analysis, obtain approval of the plan and facilitate the implementation;
  • Develop engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations, including capacity, quality, cost or regulatory compliance issues;
  • Work with Production to perform analyses of assets including Asset Utilization, Overall Equipment Effectiveness, Remaining useful life, and other parameters that define operating condition, reliability and costs of assets;
  • Provide technical support to production, maintenance management and technical personnel;
  • Identify, report and ensure resolution of critical equipment items;
  • Apply value analysis to repair/replace, repair/redesign, and make/buy decisions;
  • Work with Project Engineering to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations;
  • Adhere to the Life Cycle Asset Management (LCAM) process throughout the entire life cycle of new assets;
  • Define, design, develop, monitor and refine an Asset Maintenance Plan that includes Value-added preventive maintenance tasks, effective utilization of predictive and other non-destructive testing methodologies designed to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems;
  • Guide efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls, and safety/security systems;
  • Coordinate maintenance activities and shutdown requirements for utilities equipment;
  • Procure Utility related Production equipment, as well as prepare paperwork for expenditure – Capital Purchases (AFE’s), Purchase requests, vendor contracts, master service agreements etc.;
  • Establish external vendor relationships for services pertaining to equipment monitoring, service or reliability;
  • Set expectations for an acceptable end product, and routinely assess results through direct field verification of vendor activities;
  • Drive changes to operating parameters or frequencies of routine maintenance with Technical System Owners (TSOs);
  • Track monthly Key Performance Indicators and present to reliability senior plant management;
  • Coordinate site-wide inspection programs for permitted pressure vessels, pressure relief valves, and other systems;
  • Update obsolete spare parts within MRO stores.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering or related discipline;
  • B.S. with eight or more years of engineering experience preferably in a reliability function;
  • M.S. with four or more years of engineering experience preferably in a reliability function;
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with pharmaceutical direct and indirect utility systems, equipment and facilities, cGMP compliance, high purity water systems, clean room HVAC systems, process instrumentation and control systems, etc. required;
  • Must be fully conversant with the latest industry Reliability Assessment models – eg: FMEA, FRACAS, etc.;
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex equipment / systems and supporting utility services;
  • Flexibility to support business requirement of rotational on-call support and / or weekend coverage;
  • Proficient computer skills to include excel, word and PowerPoint, SAP experience helpful;
  • Strong planning and organizational skills required;
  • Ability to support and prioritize many diverse activities simultaneously while meeting schedule commitments;
  • Must be able to troubleshoot equipment failures immediately and communicate status to customers;
  • Good oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with a wide diverse customer base;
  • Must be self-motivated and exercise good judgment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience in a GMP / GLP environment;
  • Experience with Process Control Systems, including DCS, PLC, instrumentation and low voltage electrical systems desirable.
