Deputy Director Contract Generation

Your tasks and responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role, Deputy Director Contract Generation, are to: 


  • Lead the Development Contract Generation team in executing all Contract Generation tasks;
  • Work with Account Managers and Contract Directors to pull together contract generation requests for consideration;
  • Work with Contract Strategy, Finance and Account Management to ensure that all contract request forms have comprehensive information to drive decisions and approvals;
  • Manage dedicated personnel around Provider, Health Plan/Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM), Trade, Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) and Specialty contracts to ensure timely flow and compliance against Brand Strategies;
  • Participate as voting member in Contract & Pricing Subcommittee (CPS);
  • Maintain and modify (with cross-functional approvals) the Contract Request form as well as the formal Executive Pricing Committee (EPC)/Contracting & Pricing Subcommittee (CPS) approval process;
  • Create and seek approval for an updated EPC/CPS approval process and tracking capability to minimize off-line approvals and facilitate faster turnaround times;
  • Be responsible for all Non-Binding Illustrations (NBI’s) and contract documents between Bayer and the end customers inclusive of the redline process through document finalization and sign-off;
  • Be responsible as the Process Control Point for internal and external auditing;
  • Be responsible for leading the building and maintenance of an end- to-end request-to-approval tracking process;
  • Work with Contract Administration Team to transition contracts from generation to adjudication;
  • Act as a key collaborator with Government Pricing group to ensure consistency and oversight of contracts as they affect Bayer’s pricing guidelines per the generation process.

Required Qualifications:


  • B.A./B.S. Degree;
  • At least 10 years’ work experience in contracting, legal, strategic planning, health economics, or finance within the pharma/biotech/medical device fields;
  • At least 6 years’ contract drafting and negotiation experience in pharma/biotech/medical device fields;
  • Extensive knowledge of market access channel customers (payers, specialty pharmacies, specialty distributors, GPOs, wholesalers, provider groups/Integrated Delivery Networks [IDNs]);
  • Strong skills in leading a team responsible for detail-oriented production under tight deadlines;
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization;
  • Experience developing and implementing policies and procedures and assessing and implementing contracting best practices;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, detail oriented, and self-directed;
  • Ability to manage multiple business initiatives, to collaborate across functions in matrixed team environment;
  • Proven track record for consistently meeting or exceeding qualitative and quantitative targets and goals;
  • Excellent analytical and problem resolution skills;
  • Ability to achieve all assigned goals while maintaining compliance with all Bayer policies and standards;
  • Strong organizational and project management skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders at one time;
  • Experience managing the performance of others and developing skills of team members.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • M.B.A. or J.D. Degree.
