Computational Scientist

Your tasks and responsibilities


The primary responsibilities of this role, Computational Scientist, are to: 


  • Initiate highly innovative research projects in cardiovascular diseases or adjacent indications significantly contributing to milestone decisions
  • Identify new mechanisms, pathways and druggable targets for the development of novel, causative therapies or biomarkers using state-of-the-art computational biology / bioinformatics methods to analyze large and complex genomics and transcriptomics data sets;
  • Plan and execute analyses together with our strategic collaboration partner, the Broad Institute;
  • Develop, evaluate, implement, and apply novel bioinformatics methods on  complex data sets; e.g. single cell RNA transcriptomics
  • Maintain interfaces to global R&D functions, e.g. Digital Technologies, Clinical  Sciences, and IT functions;
  • Communicate and interact with interdisciplinary project teams;
  • Participate in scientific meetings and represent the Precision Cardiology Lab at internal and external meetings and conferences;

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor of Science Degree and at least 6 years of experience OR Master of Science Degree and at least 3 years of experience OR Ph.D. in Life Sciences (Bioinformatics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Informatics) with very strong computational focus;
  • Highly self-motivated, strives for scientific excellence;
  • Very strong analytical thinking and systematic approach;
  • Capability to present complex issues clearly and convincingly to project teams of diverse backgrounds or decision bodies;
  • Programming skills and experience with programming languages such as Python or R
  • Expertise in management of large data sets in the area of genetics and/or gene expression analysis;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and the ability to adapt to the atmosphere of a dynamic research organization;
  • Able to build excellent working relationships, initiating new collaborative projects and an enthusiasm for taking a hands-on approach to collaborative scientific discovery efforts;
  • Must enjoy working in a fast paced, cutting-edge and challenging environment;
  • Ability and willingness to think creatively, to develop and adopt relevant emerging technologies and to challenge the status quo;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and a track record of relevant publications


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Initial experience in drug discovery/pharma;
  • Experience with cellular and/or animal modeling of cardiovascular disease biology;
  • Knowledge of computational biology and experience in computational pipelines for analyzing of large datasets, such as single cell transcriptomics;
  • Familiar with cloud computing and high performance computing;
  • Postdoctoral experience
